Ten teams gathered on the groomed, green lawn at Heritage Square in Lindsborg for the 2025 Midsummer’s Kubb Tournament in June.
In the final match, Sons of Asgard and Kraken Kubbs played to a 1-1 tie leading to a third and final game for the championship.
Throughout the contest each team found a way to make amazing shots to stave off defeat. Both Gordon Kauffman with the Sons of Asgard and Scott Taylor with the Kraken Kubbs were able to toss and stack blocks with precision to keep the opposing team from gaining an advantage.
Taylor said his magic touch comes from lots of reps while he’s at work. “I practice on my lunch break,” the Wisconsin high school teacher added with a smile. Taylor is the Menomonie High Kubb Club coach who can be found most days tossing blocks in his room on the team’s turf carpet.
Stephanie Taylor made the winning shot after missing an earlier opportunity to knock down the king and knock out the Sons of Asgard. “We always say, redemption shot; you gotta hit it. And yeah, it feels pretty good!”
