Raising First Registered Flock of Gotland Sheep in Kansas

August 18, 2020 Dala Town

Anna Erickson’s passion for wool, knitting and raising a heritage sheep breed from Sweden is being lived out on her family’s farm near Gypsum. The dream to have her own flock began to take shape back in 1986 while attending a festival.

A vendor was spinning wool into yarn and Anna asked to learn more about the old-world craft. Fast forward to 2016, and the dream became a reality after Erickson found a few breeders willing to sell her some of their Gotland sheep. The gentle Swedish breed is known for its soft, curly locks that handspinners desire.

Now Erickson and her daughter, Laura Hultquist, are planning classes to share their knowledge of the spinning and knitting arts along with the primitive dyeing process the Vikings used on Gotland. Browse their products and learn more online at www.ericksonvalleyfarms.com.
